Benchmark Space Systems, a leader in small satellite propulsion systems and in-space mobility services, is seeking a Systems Engineer to help us define the new space ecosystem. Applicants should be comfortable working on a small team supporting multiple fast-paced projects. As part of the Engineering Department, this candidate would work closely with mechanical design, electrical, software, and program management groups throughout the full product life cycle. This job posting is for our Burlington, VT or Pleasanton, CA facilities, however we may consider remote work for highly qualified candidates that are willing to travel ~10% time.

Your work would include clearly defining and tracking system requirements on active programs within the Engineering Department. In this role you would call upon your breadth of experience with satellite systems to create, track, and enforce propulsion system requirements on multiple projects. At Benchmark, our systems engineers work closely with program management, mechanical designers, PCB designers, and software engineers to foster cross-discipline collaboration and ultimately ensure mission success. This position would also work closely with our customers so you must be comfortable presenting technical information to Benchmark leadership and external customers. In addition to experience creating and tracking requirements, the ideal candidate will also have hands-on experience with engineering projects.

  • Coordinate with all engineering disciplines to drive internal and external communications.
  • Translate external program requirements into internal mechanical and avionics requirements.
  • Identify gaps between current capabilities and program requirements to guide system development.
  • Define and manage critical system interfaces.
  • Work closely with program management to coordinate and lead design reviews.
  • Support system integration, verification, and validation planning and execution.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or other relevant STEM fields.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience working with satellite subsystems.
  • Previous startup or small company experience.
  • Familiarity with in-space chemical propulsion system design and operation.
  • Working knowledge of high-test hydrogen peroxide (HTP) or other green propellants.
  • Hands on lab experience with fluid systems and avionics including but not limited to solenoid valves, valve drive electronics, pressure transducers, heaters, and strain gauges.
